What Our Services Are Like

We are a Fellowship. Rev. Craig Scott is our consulting minister for this year and will present sermons at each of our locations on different dates through out the year.  If you have a specific interest we welcome your leadership or ideas for developing services.

Rev. Craig Scott

Rev. Craig Scott was ordained as a Unitarian Universalist in January 2005 at his home church, the UU Church of Berkeley, California. He is a 2004 graduate of Pacific School of Religion, in Berkeley, with an MDiv degree. Rev. Scott entered the ministry after a several careers in the field of law. A 1968 graduate of the School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, he practiced law for a number of years and then worked for the University of California in the field of continuing education for attorneys. His wife, Karen Paull, practices law with the California Public Utilities Commission, in San Francisco. They have two daughters, Mallika, 26, and Anna, 27, both of whom live and work in the Bay Area.

Rev. Scott has been active for many years in the area of social justice. A Vietnam veteran, he has long supported peace-related causes and activities. During his years of law practice, he represented Central Valley farm workers and other low-income people. Following a trip to Israel and Palestine in 2004, he and Karen have been active in efforts toward bringing peace to that region, with the Unitarian Universalist movement and as active members of the Tikkun Community founded by Rabbi Michael Lerner. Rev. Scott has also worked actively both in seminary and the UU movement to promote environmental consciousness; he has led numerous workshops on global climate change.

Our services typically include Announcements, a voluntary "Joys and Concerns" ceremony to share what is happening in our lives and communities, a Hymn or two, a Reading, a Silent Meditation and a sermon or lecture. Taken together the service usually lasts an hour to an hour and a half.

Our members wear everything from jeans and tee-shirts to their "Sunday-go-to-meeting" best. We want everyone to feel comfortable and to participate as much or as little as they want. There are no "musts" except for respect for oneself and others.
